Types and Manufacturing Process of Chemical Fibers

SYNTHETIC FIBERS

Aramid Fibers

Aramid fibers are divided into para- and metha-types depending on their components. A para-type aramid fibers are superior in tensile strength and elasticity. The tensile strength is 2.5 times that of (strength type) nylon fibers. A metha-type aramid fibers are superior in heat resistance and flame retardancy.

A para-type aramid fiber is used for a variety of reinforcements reflecting its high-tenacity and high-elasticity. Above all, reinforcements for plastic or concrete materials are important uses because of light and durable materials. A metha-type aramid fibers are used for clothing of fire-fighters, car racing suits, and uniform for high-temperature workings, reflecting its excellent fire retardancy.

1. END-USES
  • Para-type
  • As a plastic composite materials, para-type aramid fibers are used for body, floor and wall materials of airplanes, fishing rod, golf club, bow, ski, etc. In addition, they are also used for curtain walls for multistoried building as a substitute of reinforced concrete.
  • Metha-type
  • Clothing for Fire-fighters, Car Racing Suits, Uniforms for High-temperature Workings, Filter Cloth for High-temperature, Heat Insulating Materials, etc.
